Fresh From The Edinburgh Fringe
Gareth’s debut Edinburgh Fringe Festival stage show, “How Everything You Know Could Be Wrong” was a resounding success, with good audiences, good laughs, and reviews ranging from good…
“surprising facts and tricks…you’ll probably like this” THE SCOTSMAN
…to better…
“an endearingly innocent change of pace from the sweaty rigours of a lot of Fringe comedy…a godsend” METRO
…to even better…
“a unique blend of science and humour… truly funny” THREE WEEKS
…to best…
“Jones is an energetic but enthralling presenter. Science, fun, fame and celebrity - what better recipe for a show?” THE STAGE
However, since the show relies on a complicated technical set-up, a bunch of audacious audience experiments, and – let’s face it – the fate-tempting title “How Everything You Know Could Be Wrong… something was bound to go wrong… and it did.
Ten minutes before the very first show at the Gilded Balloon, that prestigious Fringe venue’s water supply suddenly stopped working, putting all the toilets and taps out of action.
Since the show relies on water for its potentially-messy finale, in which Gareth gets members of the audience to drop a heavy bucket of water “without spilling a drop”, this was more of a problem than you might think.
Unable to squeeze any water at all out of the Gilded Balloon’s taps, the TV presenter had to make a mad dash to the nearest rival venue to fill his buckets, (and – no doubt – to ‘empty his bottles’, it was – after all – the first show!).
Thankfully, staff at the Pleasance were understanding and Gareth was able to do this and make it back to the Gilded Balloon with only minutes to spare before the start of his sell-out first show. Phew!
