Gareth To Present A1 GP “World Cup of Motorsport”
An exiting new motorsport race series is about to begin, and our Gareth will be central to the action. Gareth’s knowledge and love of motor racing has landed him the job of pit lane reporter for A1 Grand Prix, a winter race series set to rival F1.
“Obviously I’m made up! Over the last 10 years or so I have made
many reports about cars and motorsport, but this will be taking things to a
new level, it’s a big job.” Reported the smiling petrolhead.
Big, indeed. Gareth’s busy itinerary will take him to Germany, Portugal,
Australia and Malaysia, and and that’s just before Christmas! Huge worldwide
viewing figures are expected too. Working alongside established motorsport commentator
Ben Edwards and ex-Grand Prix driver John Watson, Gareth will be reporting live
from the pits for the “world feed” which means wherever you are
watching the race from on the planet; it will be Gareth’s energetic tones
that will keep you up to date with what is happening up and down the pit lane
and in the paddock.
“Ben Edwards is someone who I have admired for his work for many years,
and John Watson and I became colleagues last year when we worked together on
ITV1’s Speed Sunday, he’s a top bloke”
This will be no small operation. Legendary British race car specialists Lola
have built 50 A1 GP race cars, the biggest racing car order ever received by
anyone. The idea is to pit nation against nation on a level playing field where
each national team uses identical equipment in what is dubbed “The World
Cup Of Motorsport”.
“It has all the urgency and tension of Formula 1 with the added factor
of national fervour, so far 25 team have signed up to the series countries as
diverse as Great Britain, Lebanon, India, China, South Africa, The United States.
….and one enthusiastic Welshman in the pits.”
A1 Grand Prix starts with the first round at the legendary Brands Hatch circuit
in Kent on September the 25th. Go along to se the start of something big, and
to wish Gareth well on his latest adventure, or watch live in the UK on Sky
Sports 1.
