Jones Joins The Podcast Revolution

This Summer, Gareth casually started up his own podcast — a form of internet radio — for people who probably like cars a little bit too much.

Despite the low-key launch, “Gareth Jones On Speed” has swiftly gained in popularity. In fact, London’s Time Out magazine was so impressed that Gareth has been commissioned to write a column on cars for them this month.

“Gareth Jones On Speed” is like no other radio show. Freed from commercial constraints, it takes great joy in featuring the people and sounds of motorsport missing from the official coverage, comedy sketches, reviews of alternative motoring media and a sideways glance at all aspects of car culture.

Gareth, his car-aholic mate, the oddly-named Zog, and Gareth's partner Violet Berlin also invite the listeners to join in with a regular quiz — ‘Car-nections’, the perfect parlour game for petrolheads.

“Gareth Jones On Speed” is the ITV1 “Speed Sunday” and A1 GP presenter’s pioneering venture into the world of podcasting, a method of distributing audio material via the internet, where users subscribe to a feed of new files (usually MP3s). The audience gets each now show delivered automatically to their desktop PC (via applications such as Apple’s iTunes), and can listen to shows anywhere on their portable MP3 players.

“I saw podcasting as an opportunity to try out a fresh approach to covering cars and motorsport” explained Gareth, “As an F1 fanatic I’ve always longed for some professional but “unofficial” coverage of this and other kinds of motoring news . In my podcast, we take our cars very seriously, but have a big laugh about it”.
