Show #024 - Trouble at Renault; and trouble for Gareth Zog and
Richard falling a sleep at the wheel, "Come on Eddie"...
a tribute to Eddie Jordan (and the late-lamented Jordan F1 team)
from Dexy's Midnight Racers; plus, a word from F1's very own
"Borat" - Robert Kubica.
Dexy's Midnight Racers - Come On Eddie
Back in the day, when petrol was cheap
We had power cuts and the 3 day working week
We were sad for Tom Pryce and we’d shout for John Watson
But not for Jim Clark (because he’s a Scotsman)
Then Jordan went racing and then we were keen,
His accent was Irish his cars were all green
Come on Eddie
You, know we all want you to win
C’mon Eddie,
We know that your chances are painfully thin,
Winning a race is a hundred-to-one
But we love the name Jordan in Formula One
Gachot, got drunk and got carried away
Attacked a cab driver with a CS spray
A moment of madness - hit him square in the face
A random event that let Schumacher race
A Jordan flew, but didn’t have a chance
Never completed that race in Spa Francochamps
Jordan rejected the emerald in 1992
When he painted the cars in red white and blue
Rubens Barrichello became the new foil
Driving the car with Brazilian oil
Sasol was the least Irish sponsor we’d seen,
But with Irvine on board at least the driver was green.
Come on Eddie
You, know we all want you to win
C’mon Eddie,
We know that your chances are painfully thin,
Winning a race is a hundred-to-one
But we love the name Jordan, in Formula One
Benson & Hedges arrived and their money was
bold
Tobacco was paying with B&H gold
But Jordan’s a smart and peculiar fellow
So he and painted his cars in luminous yellow.
The wins didn’t come, but there were near-misses
With a snake on the side & Bitten & Hisses
Honda‘s race engines and Gascoigne’s top car
Meant Damon got Jordan’s first with out in Spa.
Then I’d “Be On Edge” every
weekend
As the new Buzzin' Hornets drove me right round the bend
Fisi was lucky, when he got a win
But Sato would bend it,….. again and again
"The end wasn’t rapid, the car wasn’t
quick,
When Jordan sold to Midland I admit I felt a bit sick"
An uncomfortable truth, that I knew I had to face
That my favourite GP team would no longer race
Come on Eddie
You, know we all want you to win
C’mon Eddie,
We know that your chances are painfully thin,
The colour was yellow but Eddie had gone
But we loved the name Jordan in Formula One.
