In 1998 Kate Bellingham
left The Big Bang to have her first child, and the role of Gareth's
co presenter was taken up by Gareth's long-time friend, Violet Berlin (formerly
of Bad Influence).

A new title sequence was shot showing Gareth and Violet dancing a tango
along a path around a giant balloon. The show remained essentially
the same as before, however the Bench strand was replaced by Stuff & Nonsense with
Gareth and Violet in character as geeky 1960s research scientists
&Ernest Science.

Gareth and Violet are often re-enact great moments in science history
and have appeared as 40s detectives...
